Iron Man Changes It's Cast, And The Avengers Will Reassemble

Surprising no one, Disney announced yesterday that Avengers 2 has been given the green light. It was accompanied with no casting information, or word on the return of Joss Whedon, because this wasn't about any of that. This was a business announcement, brought on by the fact that The Avengers made all of the money this past weekend.

What we do know is happening is Iron Man 3, which starts filming in a couple weeks. Even so, there is still some uncertainty in that cast. Despite what was reported earlier, Scarlett Johansson will not be reprising her role as Black Widow, which is for the best. In Avengers, Black Widow is a fully evolved, emotional character, with motivations and weakness. In Iron Man 2, she was eye candy with nothing to do but be eye candy. Smarter bet, give her a lead in a SHIELD film, and let Iron Man be.

More red-head problems. When it was announced that Sir Ben Kingsley and Guy Pearce would be playing villains, Jessica Chastain's name was also thrown around as a possible love interest for Tony. That was, apparently, premature, as Chastain has been forced to drop out. Reports are now that The Town's Rebecca Hall is interested in the job.
