Wreck-It Ralph Will Wreck-It With The 8-Bit Elite

Wreck-It Ralph is an upcoming Disney movie, done in the 8-Bit style of original generation video and arcade games. Little about the film, about a game villain who decides he doesn't want to be a bad guy anymore, has been known until now. As /Film describes:
The story is set inside the world of video games. Fix It Felix Jr. is one of the remaining classic arcade machines in the back corner of an arcade. When the arcade closes, the characters in the games connect and interact between the worlds of the different machines. Ralph realises that he no longer wants to be a bad guy, and adventures into other games in effort to become the hero.
To me, that sounds an awful lot like Toy Story, but with video games instead of toys. What is impressive is that Disney has been working to secure appearance rights from dozens of classic video game characters. The only ones confirmed so far appear in a support group scene, and are as follows:
  • Bowser from Super Mario Bros.
  • Doctor Eggman from Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Kano from Mortal Kombat
  • A Ghost from Pac-Man
  • Zangief from Street Fighter
  • Coily the Snake from Q*bert
I can only imagine the film will be a veritable Easter Egg hunt of gamer references and characters, and my guess is at least one plumbing joke.
