At the age of 75, Dustin Hoffman has ventured into the world of directing. And as his first feature, he has chosen Quartet: a simply British comedy. Watching the trailer, it is clear this is the safest subject matter known to modern cinema: a group of elderly musicians must put on a show to save their retirement community. And their feisty! But, bolstered by a cast that includes Dame Maggie Smith, Sir Michael Gambon, and Billy Connolly, it should at least be delightful, if not terribly original.
