Jurassic World: Getting People Eaten By Dinosaurs, Better

Their fantastic website aside, I haven't been paying much attention to the "viral marketing" campaign for Jurassic World. I'm more of a watch the trailer, watch the film sort of person. Somewhere along the lines, I watched this new corporate ad for the fictional Masrani Corporation, which also gives us the first glimpse of Vincent D'Onofrio's character, which is good, because I completely forgot about Vincent D'Onofrio being in Jurassic World. But I was struck by two other thoughts.

First, I'm 98% certain the voice over is being provided by the voice over guy for Last Week Tonight, affecting an accent (and not entirely successfully). Maybe it's not, and just sounds a damned lot like that guy (who, last minute research tells me is named David Kaye) but I'm going to pretend that it's him all the same. Second, I don't know what kind of tone Colin Trevorrow is aiming for with this film. Based on the previous movies in the series, I would guess not satirical, but maybe bringing that sort of edge to the idea was what won him the job. The reason I ask, is that this Masrani spot screams Veridian Dynamics to me. To the extent that I couldn't take it seriously. To the extent that if Phil and Lem aren't part of Dr. Wu's team, I'm going to consider this entire film a massive disappointment.

About MR. Clark

Adopting the descriptor of "successfully unpublished author", MR. Clark began writing things on the internet in 2012, which he believed to be an entirely reputable and civilized place to find and deliver information. He regrets much.
