A Spectre Of The Past, A Sign Of Things To Come

The next Bond film, Spectre, has only been filming for a couple months or so, but that's enough time for the studio to put together a short teaser that, unlike other so called trailers that films have been putting out lately, actually teases the contents of the film. And effectively. This brief look really has me looking forward to Bond's next outing. It makes it clear that this will be as much a direct follow up to Skyfall as Quantum of Solace was to Casino Royale, which I'm unsure about as direct sequels have rarely been kind to 007. But, it looks steeped in personal history and private motivation, and if the Craig era has been good for anything, it has been grounding the franchise in character rather than the tropes and trappings of the superficial and the titillating.

It also wonderfully teases Christoph Waltz as Franz Oberhauser, shrouded in darkness. The internet is betting big on this character turning out to be Blofeld, though I kind of hope he isn't that would seem a bit like the Khan reveal in the last Star Trek movie, and that move pretty much blew the ass out of that film. I'd much rather see a new character, with new, fresh motivation and opportunity for a relationship to develop between him and Bond. Either way though, I'm excited. And since the film is coming out in November, we have less time to wait before we get to see the finished product then we usually do between seasons of Game of Thrones.
